“Hey! The Association are holding a Quiz Nite. Shall we enter a team?”
Cue general muttering of vague approval and online murmurs of ascent.
Several days later
“Well, I have registered on Eventbrite but only one or two others have!”
Cue general muttering of good intentions and admissions of procrastination...
Several more days later
“You need to register this evening if you want to take part!”
“What about K?”
“He was happy to be on our team, so can someone register him and text him the details.”
And so it came to pass that the team was duly registered, in preparation for the Grand Quiz.
Saturday evening came and we were all there - except K, who sadly couldn’t join us.
In his absence we hoped that there were not any cookery questions.
Round one
Name the 5th of seven dwarves if they are listed alphabetically.
We racked our brains before plumping for Happy.
Morse’s first name?
"Endeavour!"
As the questions were posted we realised that between us we could work out most of the answers - though some we drew a blank at like the fictional town where "Allo Allo' was set - which provided an excellent opportunity for some appauling french accents...
Next round - Rivers
Perfect! One of our team has a Geography degree...
The geographically-minded one pointed out in a very Marvinistic way, that it just made it worse if they got it wrong.
"At least we haven't had any questions on engines..."
"That would be wonderful!" enthused the mechanically-minded team member.
Between us we managed to correctly identify them all. I was just disappointed that the Severn was number five...
Going For A Song
A round on ABBA songs was a gift and most of the team were able to contribute a correct answer, as we sang our way through
Barking Mad!
Then we hit our low point - identifying breeds of dogs. We had some good guesses is all I can say, approx two thirds of which were correct...
Flagging
Last round was county flags - who knew counties had flags?
Amazingly we managed to work out all of these correctly.
Result
When they tallied up the totals we came second out of six teams, a mere three pints behind the winners. WOW!
All in all in was a rather entertaining, non-serious evening. Perfect :)
The winner takes it all - even if it is honour and not an actual prize, but we were well chuffed at coming second, so just there were no regret. If we had to do the same again we would - even though no-one called Fernando took part!
