September Blues

I didn’t want to get up Tuesday morning.
It wasn't post Banky Monday Blues

I just wasn’t ready for September

 - preferring to cling to summer and warmer days
with temperatures ideally between17 and 23 degrees -
unless it is night time - when slightly cooler would be appreciated.

- preferring days when I can sit and be
watching the endless waves upon the sea
the ever changing light upon the waters
and wander bare foot upon the beach
and enjoy the immersive theatre with diverse cast and a plethora of walk on roles
available for anyone in the vicinity
there by intent or happenstance of serendipity.

- preferring the riotous glory of summer flora - hollyhocks,
daisys, lobelia, foxgloves, forget-me-not and pansies
perhaps not the range of flowers we would have chosen,
but this is the year of  covid,
so we make do with what we can get hold of!

- preferring the time to be and relax
to go beyond the limitations of the spring
and travel to places: towns and cities,
moors and woods,
headland or parkland.

- preferring the lighter evenings,
when the garden can be enjoyed
and expeditions can be taken without fearing tripping over tree roots
or accidentally stepping in something unpleasant.

Is September so very bad?
What is it that makes me sad?
Every season has its own joys
and autumn has the glories of colour
yellow, red, orange and crimson.
Events restart - some of which have not run since the spring
people can be met, who we may have only have seen virtually
There are lots of positives,
but I want to hold on to that which with the turn of the page eludes me.
I am not ready to move on.

My daughter, however, rejoices at September's dawn.
In her mind there is an instant transition to cooler temperatures
and that which has been on hold can restart.

There is one solution, I must look beyond the decreasing temperatures
and challenges that will bring
Not to worry about that which I cannot change
and instead to look to the future
when the days will lengthen one again.
Till then look for the joys and merits each month brings
and be thankful for the brightening of the morn -
even if I do not like getting up in the morning.
