Digging For Victory

What seemed like a good idea at 5pm yesterday, matured into lunacy into the cold light of day after an evening of continuous snowfall.

Who 'nose'?
As our day out had been cancelled due to the weather, I had volunteered us to ring for a wedding, to free others up to sort transport issues. Since then the snow cover had increased from a couple of inches to about six! At this rate, we might have to walk. DH went and did a recce on the state of nearby roads, and reported back that the traffic appeared to be moving freely. Meanwhile, some of our neighbours went out to clear the snow, but decided that building a snowman would be more fun...We dug out the snow shovels and set about clearing the area around the car, and into the road. Then we set off slowly.

The road up to the church was passable. The road to the car park wasn't. Out came the shovels and we set to work once more.  A small plough arrived, driven by a friend of the groom and he set about clearing the top car park. DH drove up the slope, he got to the top, only to encounter the reversing snow plough, so he had to reverse back down again. Twice. The car finally made it up the slope, and went off to do what we had come to do - ring.

As we looked down from our ringing chamber, we could see a church full of people waiting to celebrate this happy union. We estimated that between us we knew 75% of the guests, as both the bride and groom came from local church families.

Back home, and round three of the big dig got underway, as we set about clearing our end of the road. This is made more complicated by a lack of places to put the snow, whilst avoiding barricading parking spaces. We do not want the neighbours to think we have fallen out with them!

Just as it was getting dark the KHT decided that she was going to build a snowman. Her work completed, she returns to announce the conclusion of her artistic endeavours.
"You are in for a surprise! Look out the window!"
I look out the window and see a strangely shaped, scarf-draped figure lurking on my slightly less snowy lawn.
I have a flash of inspiration.
"I know! its the farmer from Shaun the Sheep!"
"Nice try, but no. It is a bit older than that.
"There's a clue on your desk" she instructs me.
I go back upstairs and this is what I discover.

After this big clue, I finally work out that it is the shepherd who has found his sheep, who was formerly the shepherd who had lost one of his flock.

It starts to snow again. I peer out the front window, to check on the progress of the weather.  A white figure is there, apparently on guard duty.   With this guy out the front and the shepherd at the back, I am beginning to feel as if we are under surveillance - all that is required are some glowsticks to really freak the neighbours...

Resist...
